Consultation - garden ideas service
We come to your property offering a one hour consultation service. Whilst walking around with you, we discuss your aspirations for the property and offer ideas and suggestions to make them realizable. The information discussed during the consultation is then posted to you in the form of a written report for your reference.
Plans - four step plan process
The most important component when creating a new garden or modifying an existing one is planning. We believe that well designed gardens create the difference, enhancing the value and character of your property. Our garden plan system ensures that our customers are kept well informed throughout the planning process thus ensuring our designs allow you to create the garden you imagined.
We have devised a four step planning process to achieve this.
1. Free initital half hour consultation
I like to meet with the client on site to assess the situation and scope of the design involved.
At this stage a general discussion takes place to ascertain your ideas, desires, and wishes. If the property is a newly constructed home, at this meeting I will request from you a copy of the builder's site plan - this is a plan which shows the outline of the house in relation to the boundaries and generally has drainage detail on it.
2. Concept plans
To help you visualize what you want to achieve, we provide two different options looking at the design layout of your property. These plans feature garden and lawn shape and size, driveway and paved areas, outdoor living areas and utility areas, retaining walls if necessary, plus special features such as pergolas, archways, outdoor fireplaces or water features. Specimen or feature trees may be included at this stage but generally no planting detail is included at this step. Concept plans are intended to be used as melting pots for ideas. Your input is encouraged via the selecting of different ideas from the two plans.
3. Revised concept plan
A revised plan is then redrawn combining the elements selected by you from the two initial concepts, thus creating your personalised plan. Your final concept will be presented to you as a coloured plan.
4. Planting plans
Once a concept plan has been finalised, a detailed planting plan is provided for the garden areas.
The planting plan is presented as a 'birds eye view', as if one were looking down on the property, and the plants are represented by stylised circles, labeled with a botanical name. To avoid confusion I always use botanical names, as often common names refer to more than one species of plant. The planting plan comes with a plant schedule listing all the plants used by their botanical name and a common name if applicable, and the number of plants required.
Landscape planting and construction
Following on from the plan process, we can implement your landscape design for you.
A written quote and accompanying work schedule will be provided for the hard landscape construction, which is undertaken by various subcontractors who are specialists in their field, and soft landscape (planting) supply and installation, which we do for you once all the hard construction is in place.
Garden care
We also offer a garden maintenance service where we provide specialist care for your garden. All aspects of garden maintenance are covered from weeding, plant pest and disease monitoring and appropriate spraying and fertilising, and pruning; with all rubbish generated removed from site. Maintenance is undertaken on an hourly rate basis and the frequency can be anything from a monthly check to annual once over.
